YMCA Marathon Club | |
The club meets on Sunday mornings at the YMCA building in Greys Ave, Auckland City. From January to April the start time is 6:45 am, and for the rest of the year, May to December, we start at 7:45 am. The Club uses a ‘pack’ running system. Each pack runs at a set pace and runners choose the pack best suited to their ability and fitness levels. On your first visit to the Club, please notify the Club Captain who will place you in an appropriate ‘pack’. In addition to the running packs, we also have a Basic Training Squad and an enthusiastic walking group. At certain times of the year the walking groups start earlier than the runners - refer to the Club Captain for details. So for a brisk walk or a paced pack run, please join us on Sunday morning. The 10K Series in Auckland Domain, for runners and walkers, is held at 6 pm every Thursday evening during Daylight Saving. Our next major event will be the Rotorua Marathon on Saturday 2 May 2009. This will be followed by Auckland Marathon on Sunday 1st November 2009. Each year the Club hosts the Women's Event in Cornwall Park. This is a 5km and 10km fun run and walk for women and girls, held this year on Sunday 26 April 2009. The course has been changed to start and finish at Auckland Jogger's Club, Puriri Drive Epsom. The date for 2010 will be advised, and is likely to be the Sunday before Rotorua Marathon. Note that the Club is closed for about four Sundays each year.
