Home > Swimming > Swim Babies as young as 6 months can enroll in swimming lessons. Y-Swimming runs water babies’ lessons; these classes are especially designed to introduce babies aged 6 months and older to basic swimming skills and water safety techniques in a fun, supportive and stimulating environment. There are so many benefits to be gained from introducing children to swimming at an early age. There are the obvious health benefits such as exercising limbs and lungs, developing co-ordination and motor skills. Research has also shown that children who are introduced to water/swimming lessons at a young age (six to 18 months) are less likely to develop a fear of water which can be common in children who are introduced to swimming at a later age. Because of the YMCA’s philosophy of delivering high quality programmes
to the community Y-Swimming classes are small and friendly with highly–trained
professional instructors.
